Wintegra devices utilized in Datang 3G Basestation trials
Austin, Texas, USA, 15 January 2007 - Wintegra Inc., a fabless semiconductor company focused on the access infrastructure market, announced today that Datang Mobile is using WinPath access processors in its Super Node B, a high-capacity Base Station currently participating in TD-SCDMA field trials in China, for current and future 3G deployments. Datang Mobile is recognized as a leading developer and manufacturer of TD-SCDMA 3G technology in China.
Datang uses the WinPath 740 and the WinPath 780W4, which is part of the W-Series family, designed specifically to meet the needs of advanced wireless infrastructure technologies.
Built for the access market, the WinPath1 family of devices is designed to allow direct interface to all common access equipment standards. These system-on-a-chip devices offer fully integrated control path and data path processing, plus highly scalable performance and the most comprehensive software environment available.
The W-Series is optimized for 3G wireless applications, and was developed to meet the needs of 3GPP release 4, 5 and 6 Iub transport interfaces in micro, macro and pico basestation (BTS) products. The chips include TDM, UTOPIA/POS, and Ethernet interfaces, which allows direct connection to any ATM, IMA or IP transport. Using Wintegra's internal packet processing engines and its proprietary hardware architecture, which features modified symmetric multi-processors, the W-Series offers performance across a wide range of wireless systems. This series of processors can also support SDH/SONET channelized interfaces as required by the 3GPP standards.
A number of leading manufacturers worldwide are already designing with Wintegra's WinPath access processor family, which now includes the W-series for 3G designs. Wintegra plans to further the evolution of WinPath devices, and continue offering solutions to meet the needs of a variety of designs, including those in the wireless infrastructure market.
"We're pleased to see Datang Mobile as a Wintegra WinPath adopter for our combined silicon and software wireless infrastructure solution," said Joe Krystofik, VP of Worldwide Sales for Wintegra. "Datang Mobile's choice of WinPath is further validation of Wintegra's position as a leader in the access processor marketplace."
"Datang Mobile is selecting the WIN780W4 because the device is not only able to support important 3G transport features such as IP fragmentation as well as AAL2 ATM to IP interworking," said Mr. SUN Xiaonan, assistant to the president of Datang Mobile, "the device also enables Datang to develop the industry's highest capacity TD-SCDMA BTS system that can handle many thousands of 3G subscribers simultaneously."
"We have high confidence, as the trials come to a close and the technology becomes available to subscribers, that Datang will see further success using Wintegra devices," he added.
